Visiting WolfWood
WolfWood Refuge is home to over 50 wolves, wolf-dogs, coyotes, and dogs. During your visit, you'll have the chance to meet and interact with some of them — an experience our guests describe as nothing short of magical.
Every animal is an individual. Your tour guide will direct all interactions based on each animal's temperament, size, and mood on the day of your visit. Activity levels vary by season, weather, time of day, and how many people the animals have already met. When an animal is ready for a break, we give them one — no exceptions. Our animals always come first, and we ask that you embrace that spirit too.
Come with patience, an open heart, and a sense of adventure. Fair warning: you will leave dirty, covered in fur, and probably a little disheveled. That's not a side effect — that's the magic.
Please make sure to review the tour guidelines below before scheduling your tour.

Educational Outreach
Wolfwood provides comprehensive information and education on wolf and wolfdog behavior and issues surrounding them. Next to saving the lives of animals, our educational programs are our number one priority. We believe that exposing the public to these special animals and bringing understanding about wolves will make a positive difference. It is extremely rewarding to hear a child who started off the tour saying "I'm afraid they will eat me" change to "This was the best field trip ever!" Here are some of the programs WolfWood provides:
School Assemblies
When we visit schools, we take animals with us. We do an hour long educational talk and show the wolves outside. Occasionally there is time for petting if the program is for a smaller audience. Sometimes we do two assemblies and see an entire school in one afternoon! We are often asked back because the kids love the presentations.
Tours and Field Trips
Schools and different organizations come to the refuge for educational tours, service projects or days with the wolves. This is an opportunity for a first hand look at rescue work, gets participants outside in nature and teaches a lot about wolves and wolf/dogs. In a typical year, WolfWood will provide 50 different educational programs.
Community Events
We also get involved with community groups. Seminars and educational programs are presented at schools, state parks, businesses, libraries, and various communities each year. We facilitate service-learning projects for our fifty different youth organizations and business groups and have extensive outreach programs to target at-risk youth. I am so proud of the work we do with youth.
The wolves do not belong to us; they are in our care, and we never charge anyone for the learning and growing experience of interacting with them. I hope you, as our friends and supporters, recognize the difference you are making in the lives of animals and humans alike.

Visit WolfWood
WolfWood is an active animal rescue first — tours and programs are scheduled in advance to keep the animals comfortable and every visit meaningful.
Come prepared for the terrain: we sit at over 7,000 feet, with hilly, unpaved paths and a 175-foot elevation climb from the parking area. Sturdy footwear is a must.
Visitors often describe their time at WolfWood as one of the most unforgettable experiences of their lives. We can't wait to share these animals with you.
